HealthCare Nightmares or Miracles ?

About ten years have passed since I have been a health care practitioner. It has been both a tremendous blessing as well as an uphill battle. Every day I sit and listen to patients give me the long histories of their illness. While spending one hour with a new patient, I get to hear incredible stories of their process in dealing with our medical establishment. I listen to stories from very frustrated patients that have much to say about their experience. These stories have prompted me to start this blog. I want to hear your stories in an effort to bring more awareness to health care issues that face our nation today. Where is our health care going? I have realized one important fact about the way the medical system was established. It is set up on a system of sick-care, not a system of health-care. This is solely why our nation has turned into a pharmaceutical based system. No longer do doctors spend time with their patients to get to know their needs and goals. No longer do doctors teach a patient about lifestyle choices so they may avoid a disease in the future. No longer do doctors try to explain the cause of your illness. Those are times of the past. Remember, the latin root of doctor is docere, which means to teach, and the root word of medicine is medici, which means to heal. In my opinion, our medical society has lost these values? This is why more people are taking health into their own hands and seeking an alternative method. But that topic is for another day. For now, tell me your health care nightmares and miracles?
